“When Will This End?”

6 Nov

There was no shortage of comments from politicians after yesterday’s mass shooting at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas which left over 25 people dead. These comments, on TV news programs and social media, offered prayers and condolences for the injured as well as our nation – pretty typical stuff that we’ve, sadly, become all to accustom to reading every few weeks in our country.

There were also comments like the one Senator Dianne Feinstein made in her official statement on the incident. The Democratic Senator from California asked, “When will this end?

The obvious political answer is when our leaders, including Ms. Feinstein who has served in Congress for 40 years, finally take action to reduce the availability of guns in this country instead of just talking about doing so.

While curtailing the accessibility of guns in this country through government legislation will reduce the number of incidents similar to what happened Sutherland Springs, Las Vegas, Columbine among too many other places, it will not eliminate it. Human beings cannot solve this problem.

The only answer to eliminating violence of any kind on our planet is for human beings to be filled with God’s Holy Spirit. Human beings are evil. Our propensity is to hurt other human beings. No one can look at the history of the human race and plausibly deny this. Moreover, God tells us this in the Bible.

Unfortunately, very few people even read a Bible anymore and even fewer believe what it says. Over the past several decades we’ve removed the Bible from our lives both physically and intellectually. We’ve decided that we – human beings – can fix our problems and make the world a better place without having to answer to a higher authority.

We could not be more wrong.

Over the past eighty years in the United States alone we’ve made it illegal to teach the Bible in school, made it illegal to pray in schools, we’ve rejected many of the instructions God has given us in the Bible by accepting, celebrating, and legalizing pornography, abortion, homosexuality, same-sex marriage and gender fluidity.

During that same time period, we’ve undeniably seen our country’s morality, finances, security, civility, and healthiness (both physical and mental) decline. – a decline that has become more precipitous in more recent years. It will only gain traction if we don’t address the true underlying issue – we not capable of dealing with our troubles.

Human beings are not capable of fixing the problems we cause. Any “solution” that we come up with to fix a problem only creates more problems. This is because our so-called solutions don’t factor in the reason for all the evil that occurs on this planet – the human heart is wicked.

Again, God makes this clear in the Bible. Human beings, in and of their own efforts, do not have the capacity to bring about anything good. We can only make things worse, even when we intentionally try to make them better.

Despite the preponderance of evidence proving this, we stubbornly and arrogantly continue to insist to ourselves that we have the power to improve our welfare. In defiance of God, we continue to see ourselves as authoritative and capable of deciding what is best.

Human beings have usurped God’s right to decide what is right or wrong or to decide what is necessary or unnecessary, thinking we can do at least a good of a job as He can or even better. The truth is are ill-equipped to make important decisions.

Our desire to rely on ourselves instead of God is not based on any empirical evidence that we can actually do so. It is based on nothing but self-adoration. We think so highly of ourselves that we are blind to the reality of our own limitations and weaknesses.

The only way that trouble, including mass shootings, in our nation can be abated or even ended is for the residents of this country – each and every one – to humble himself or herself before God and seek His mercy. We must repent of our arrogance and our sin and cede control of our lives back to the God who created us and loves us and who wants the best for us.

Unlike other human beings, He is not only willing, but also able, to provide it.

Son Of Sam Is Now A Child Of God

8 Sep

Forty years ago David Berkowitz terrorized New York City for over a year as the “Son of Sam” – a man who claimed he received orders to kill people from his neighbor’s dog, named Sam.

After killing 6 people and wounding 7 others Berkowitz was caught on August 15, 1977 (the day before Elvis died) and was sentenced to multiple consecutive life sentences with no chance of parole.

After surviving a knife attack by one inmate (Berkowitz’ neck was slashed and he came close to dying) another inmate approached him and told him “I know you’re David Berkowitz, and I want to tell you something. I want you to know that Jesus Christ loves you, and He’s got a plan and a purpose for your life.”

Later this inmate gave Berkowitz a BIble and since Berkowitz was Jewish suggested he start reading the Psalms, in the Old Testament. After a few months of Bible reading and talking with this other inmate, Berkowitz, who once called himself the Son of Sam, repented of his sins, accepted God’s forgiveness through Jesus, and became an adopted son of God. He now calls himself “Son of Hope”.

In this very interesting interview (textual, not video) Berkowitz revealed that at a young age he got involved in Satan worship and that led to a troubled life that eventually caused him to murder people in cold blood.

There are so many lessons in this story. We see that any dabbling in the occult is extremely dangerous. It may seem harmless and fun to be rebellious against God. But doing so is very precarious and can lead to extreme mental and psychological trouble.

We also see that God works through other people. Each of us who is a member of God’s family by being born-again needs to tell others about Jesus. If we stay silent, people will not hear the truth they need to hear – truth that will change the course of their eternity.

But we also see that no one is beyond God’s love. No matter what a person has done, that person was originally created by God to be a recipient of His love. To that end, as long as a person is alive God will pursue them. He’ll never stop trying to reach that person to convince him/her that He loves them.

Now David Berkowitz will spend eternity in heaven because he repented, admitted his sins, and accepted Jesus’ death as complete and final atonement for those sins.

Mao Zedong was responsible for the deaths of over 48,000,000 people. If he had repented God would have forgiven him too. Joseph Stalin killed over 20,000,000. But if he had repented God would have forgiven him too. Hitler killed about 10,000,000 people. But if he had repented God would have forgiven him too.

None of us have done such horrible things as Mao, Berkowitz, or Hilter. If God is willing to forgive them, then He’s willing and able to forgive you too. Nothing you’ve done puts you outside of God’s reach or disqualifies you from His love.

Harvey Victims Apparently Are Having A Hard Time Paying For Abortions

6 Sep

Many people in the Houston area have lost everything as a result of Hurricane Harvey. Houses. Possessions. Pets. Cars. Businesses. Not to mention their loved ones who died in this tragedy.

As they try to rebuild their lives they need money, food, water, clothes, shelter, among other things. Thankfully, many generous and wonderful people all over the country and the world are providing aid.

Even some abortion clinics in south Texas are chipping in. They’re offering free abortions to anyone affected by Harvey.

Because, y’know, when you’ve lost everything you own and don’t have clothes, water, or food and have lost even your loved ones, the one thing you need more than anything else is an abortion.

Does anyone still wonder why God is sending all this disaster upon the United States?

There is no hope for this country. None.

People Will Choose Sin When Given The Choice

2 Sep

Back in June, a teacher at a Christian preschool in California was fired from her job because she had another job. As a porn actress.

Nina Skye had signed an agreement upon taking her teaching job stating that she would not do such things. She had already been in the porn business for some time at that point and admittedly lied when signing the agreement.

When the school found out they offered to let her continue teaching if she would give up working in the porn industry. They also offered her a pay raise and to subsidize her housing costs.

She declined.

Instead, she accepted her dismissal from the school in order to pursue porn full-time saying she didn’t want to leave the industry because “having sex” was her “dream job”. She also gushed over how much money she made doing porn.

The porn business makes more money in the United States each year than the NFL. And the NBA. And the NHL. And MLB.

Times ten.

Pornography is a destructive force in our society that destroys marriages, degrades women, and turns young men into inadequate boyfriends, husbands, and fathers. It, among other sins, is leading to our undeniable decline.

God repeatedly warns us against the evils of pornography in the Bible. But those who participate in it don’t care about others; they care only about themselves and making money.

This, of course, is precisely in line with how God describes the human race stating that we love committing sin more than we love doing what is right because we are selfish.

“They take pleasure in doing wrong, and they enjoy the twisted ways of evil.” – Proverbs 2:14

“People loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.” – John 3:19

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils.” – 1 Timothy 6:10

“For they all seek their own interests” – Philippians 2:21

God Offers To Pardon Our Sins

27 Aug

The other day President Trump pardoned former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio who was convicted of contempt charges in Arizona, although the veracity of those charges is questioned by many.

Regardless of the validity of Arpaio’s trial, we can learn a lesson about God from all this.

All of us stand guilty before God due to our sin. We’ve all done things, said things, and thought things that aren’t right. Many things. And we know it. We’re all up to our eyeballs in sin.

Our guilt is obvious. But nevertheless, God offers to pardon us of all our sin so we can avoid the penalty due us – spending eternity in hell – and instead be with Him forever in heaven.

That pardon is only available through Jesus. God came to earth as Jesus and took on the penalty of our sin because we could not pay that penalty ourselves.

This is somewhat equivalent to a judge deciding on his own to pay the life sentence of a convicted criminal by going to jail for him.

And because God did this, we can now be pardoned. All we have to do is accept God’s offer.

Just like the convicted criminal could decline the judge’s offer to go to jail in his place, we can reject God’s offer. Even though it would be crazy to do so, billions of people have done, and are doing, just that.

Accept God’s pardon. He loves you so much he’s willing to pay your penalty for you and erase all your sins – each and every one – from the record books as if they never existed.

It would be foolish to turn down that offer.

Anti-Religion Group’s Misguided Conclusion About The Bible

26 Aug

Last week the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) wrote an extremely unprofessional and strongly worded letter to Governor Matt Bevin of Kentucky in response to his recent call for raising kids with the teachings of the Bible as a way to improve society.

This was not the first letter FFRF has written to the governor. I don’t know what was in the previous ones, but this one is filled with mistakes.

FFRF calls the Bible violent, hate-filled, and racist and claims that it has spawned hate-filled, racist-inspired violence.

To support these conclusions, FFRF offers up two “proofs”. One is that the Klu Klux Klan calls itself a Christian group. The other is that Hilter was a Catholic whose soldiers had a religious slogan on their uniforms: “God With Us” (“Gott mit uns”, in German).

As a former rabid, foaming-at-the-mouth atheist myself, who would likely have joined FFRF had they been around when I was younger, I used to think the same of the Bible. But I realized I was wrong. And the FFRF is wrong too.

While the facts about the KKK and Hilter are true, the FFRF makes a very obvious error in the process of drawing their conclusion. They allow man to define God instead of the other way around.

People aren’t “Christians” because they say they are. They’re Christians because of what God says. And God tells us in the Bible exactly how to identify people who belong to Him.

Here are just a few verses (there are many more):

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” – John 13:35

“If anyone says, “I love God,” but hates his brother, he is a liar.” – 1 John 4:20

“And now I urge you, dear lady–not as a new commandment to you, but one we have had from the beginning–that we love one another.” – 2 John 1:5

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” – Galatians 5:22-23

FFRF has conveniently ignored these passages for the very obvious reason that they undermine and refute the very point FFRF is trying to make.

Was Hitler loving? Or patient? Or kind? Or gentle? Did he exhibit self-control? No on all counts. Hence, he was not a Christian.

For the same reason, neither are the members of the KKK or Westboro Baptist Church or anyone else who claims to be but does not back it up by living the way God commands His children to live.

And while no one, other than Jesus Himself (who was God in a human body) can be perfect 100% of the time, those who are truly adopted children of God as a result of repentance of their sins, will more often than not exhibit the characteristics mentioned by God and will do so more and more over time because they are filled with God’s Holy Spirit.

The FFRF has read the Bible. That’s good. But they haven’t studied it. That is where they go wrong.

They pick out certain phrases and passages without understanding their meaning which can only be arrived at through study – including cultural and contextual understanding. And, as proven, they ignore passages that contradict their conclusions.

Instead, they simply gloss over the text looking for reasons to be against it. Of course, they find such reasons.

It’s easy to make a text, especially a religious one, say what you want it to say when you start with a conclusion already cemented in your mind.

I know. I used to be as misguided as the FFRF.

Company Plans On Implanting Microchip In Employees

24 Jul

A company in Wisconsin is going to embed microchips in the hands of their employees starting in August.

The chip will allow the employees to open security doors, pay for items in the cafeteria, and login to their computers without cards or passwords.

The CEO of the company says: “Eventually, this technology will become standardized allowing you to use this as your passport, public transit, ALL PURCHASING OPPORTUNITIES, etc., We see chip technology as the next evolution in payment systems, much like micro markets have steadily replaced vending machines.” (emphasis mine)

He’s right.

About 2,000 years ago God told John – one of Jesus’ disciples – to write the book of Revelation. In it, He described a time coming on earth where the economy would be controlled by a world-wide government ruled by a single human being – the Antichrist. Only those who pledge allegiance to the Antichrist will be allowed to buy or sell (Revelation 13:16-18).

Those who do pledge such allegiance will take “the mark of the beast [the Antichrist]” on their hand or forehead. Exactly what this mark would be was a mystery for centuries. But with the advent of scannable tattoos and embedable technology, such as described in this article, the prophecy in Revelation is clearly possible today.

With all economic transactions taking place electronically, it will be very simple for commerce to be controlled. All someone has to do is click a box on a webpage to turn on or turn off the chip embedded in someone’s hand, thus allowing or preventing that person from buying or selling.

While the chips that this company is embedding are optional, people alive when the Antichrist implements this technology will not have a choice. They will have to take the mark of the beast or they will be penniless, homeless, hungry, and destitute.

But there’s a catch.

By taking the mark of the beast, a person becomes the enemy of Jesus as the Antichrist will be vehemently against God and those who believe in Him (this is why the Bible calls him the “anti” christ).

This is just another specific, prophecy in the Bible that is coming true. Considering all that have already come true, one cannot doubt that the Bible is truly the word of God.

If you’re alive when this happens – don’t take the mark. Repent of your sin and stay faithful to Jesus. Better to lose everything on this earth – including your life – than to join forces with the Antichrist and end up in hell for all eternity.
